In November 2016, Nottingham’s inaugural 6-a-side Street Cricket League was launched at Portland Centre in the Meadows.
With fixtures played on Thursday evenings over 6 weeks and games comprising of six four-ball overs lasting just fifteen minutes per game, this fast-paced version of tape-ball cricket is perfectly matched to inner-city venues.
Adapted rules such as being caught off the walls and every player having to bowl one over, ensures every player is always involved in the action and with the addition of new rules like the ‘double-runs ball’ and the ‘minus-10 runs ball’, games were always closely contested, right down to the very last ball.
After round 6, honours were even as the league was tied between The Els and Sub South, with both teams totalling an equal number of wins over the duration of the league.
Tommy Wilson of Sub South topped the leading run scorer charts, with a total of 275 runs, whilst Ben Hogan, also of Sub South, proved the most ruthless with the ball, taking a total of eight wickets, the two winners earning themselves signed Notts Outlaws shirts.
The league continues on Thursday evenings throughout 2017 and new entries are welcome.
