Club Safeguarding Officers
Each affiliated club is required to appoint a Safeguarding Officer. They carry out functions relating to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
Club Safeguarding Officers need to attend two sets of initial training:
- The Safeguarding and Protecting Children (SPC) course run by Sportscoach UK OR The ECB Safeguarding Young Cricketers online course.
- The ‘Safe Hands Workshop’ which is run by the local County Board.
- An ECB DBS Vetting check is also required
Every three years, Safe Hands and SPC/SYC requirements above must be updated.
Coaches
Every cricket coach should have the following qualifications:
- A recognised cricket coach qualification
- Complete a Safeguarding Young Cricketers (SYC) online module
- An ECB DBS Vetting check is also required
A first aid qualification is also recommended.
Every three years, the first aid and SYC must be updated.

DBS Update: The ECB have provided an update for January 2023. This includes an annual online request for applicants to re-confirm their details to ensure they hold the most accurate information.
