Street Cricket in Nottingham continues to grow from strength to strength as for the second year running a team from the County qualified for the Chance to Shine Street National Finals.
Held at the David Ross Sports Village at the University of Nottingham, the flagship event for the competition rolled into Nottingham, bringing along a plethora of cricket stars, including our very own Stuart Broad.
Drawn in a group alongside the Birmingham Bashers, Blackburn Blitz and Waltham Kings, the Notts Outlaws’ day started well with two wins and a loss, ensuring qualification for the knockout stages in the afternoon.
After a bite to eat and a quick Q&A session with England stars James Vince, Katherine Brunt and Broad it was time to commence the knockout stages.
Notts Outlaws were up against a strong Manchester Lightning side in the semi-final and in a game that was streamed live on Facebook and commentated on by Stuart Broad and Simon Hughes, the Outlaws were unlucky to fall to a defeat against the side that went on to win the overall competition.
The disappointment of defeat was soon forgotten as the boys took the opportunity to smash some sixes on the NatWest VR Cricket Experience to round off yet another fantastic day for Street Cricket in Nottingham.
“Today has been another brilliant day for Street Cricket. Chance to Shine have pulled out all the stops to put on the best National Finals yet and the boys are already excited to do their best to qualify again in 2019” said Ian Dipaolo, Cricket Development Officer for Participation and Growth at Nottinghamshire CCC.
“Street Cricket is such a great format for these children and it’s only going to grow in Nottingham with new sessions now running for Under 12s in Sneinton, and a new girls street cricket session launching in November”.
