Young Umpires/Scorers
NOTTS YOUNG CRICKET OFFICIALS PROGRAMME
Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, Notts ACO and the Russ Evans Foundation are excited to
announce the launch of the Notts Young Cricket Officials Programme. Our Young Cricket Officials
Programme will give our young officials the best training possible and utilises key partners and club mentors to support them as they begin their journey as a qualified official.
The education programme is aimed exclusively at 14-18 year olds and is delivered over a 2 year
period, through a Two Step Process. Throughout the programme, the young officials will be given
the appropriate training and ongoing support to give them the confidence to officiate in the game.
Details of the Two Step Process outlined below:
STEP 1 – INTRODUCTION | STEP 2 - DEVELOPMENT | |
TRAINING | An Introduction to Umpiring and Scoring Course | The Stage 1/2 Umpiring and/or Club Scorer Training |
MENTORING: | Ongoing support from Club/County Mentors | Ongoing support from Club Mentors, Notts ACO and Russ Evans Foundation |

Delivering in this two-step process, allows the young officials to start officiating within age related games i.e. Kwik Cricket and U10/11 Hardball, gaining valuable game experience before attending further specialised training in Step 2.
This is a FREE programme and involves face to face training where you will learn how to umpire and
score and then put what you have learnt into practice through games based learning. You’ll then
be ready to go back to your club/school to put these new skills into practice. You will also be
offered opportunities to officiate at local festivals and tournaments where you will be mentored
and supported by your club/school/Notts ACO Mentor.
It’s perfect for 14-18 year olds who are keen to learn more about cricket, help out at their local
club/school or learn some valuable skills to use towards a volunteering scheme (such as The Duke
of Edinburgh Award Scheme).
All Young Officials will receive an ECB Young officials Polo Shirt and Umpires Counter, as well as free membership of the ECB Association of Cricket Officials (including insurance) and ongoing training and support from the County Club, Notts ACO and your local Club.
