The NatWest U19 Club T20 competition was developed through player insight to combat a national trend within clubs – young players dropping out of the game after U15s.
The insight gathered from 1000 young players (current and lapsed) pointed to these key factors:
After U15s age group cricket, there is no specific offer for young players
16–19 year olds want to play with their friends
Young players are keen to develop their own skills by taking more responsibility (volunteering)
They want short formats, with coloured kit and lively atmosphere where their friends can watch
The NatWest U19 Club Twenty20 has kicked off in Nottinghamshire with eight teams competing into two leagues for the right to meet in a final. The Nottinghamshire tournament is divided into two leagues:
North
South
One of the first games took place this week when Kimberley Krusaders took on the Plumtree Plumdogs and it turned out to be an outstanding evening. The home club put on a tremendous evening with music, coloured kit, pink balls and a barbecue and it drew in a sizeable crowd supporting both sides.
It was an extraordinarily good game - the Krusaders batted first and posted an excellent 164 for 5 with Alex Aldred hitting 50 off 34 balls and Max Sugarman smacking 45 from just 28. The Plumdogs kept up with the rate and Sam Lund smacked 34 from 19 balls including three 6’s to see his side home from the last ball. You can see the scorecard for the game here.
Keep an eye out for future fixtures by selecting Nottinghamshire from the division drop-down box on the ECB home-page and come along and support this exciting new venture.
