Five ways to give your club's fundraising efforts the edge.
The Nottinghamshire Cricket Board has compiled a list of five tips to aid clubs in securing as much funding as possible through crowdfunding appeals.
With a number of clubs turning to crowdfunding to help them to weather the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, and with Sport England offering to support through match-funding, the following tips are designed to increase the chances of completing a successful appeal.
1. Set a realistic target
It’s more likely that members and the community will throw their support behind an attainable goal. And, with Sport England only match-funding those who reach their target, you may benefit long-term.
2. Create a marketing strategy
Consider email, WhatsApp and social media as ways of spreading the word. Organising a fundraising event may also prove beneficial. Martyn Hill's Batathon for Farndon CC is a fine example of this; as well as being a compelling event in its own right, Martyn's use of social media posts helped to draw attention from local radio and newspapers.
3. Use compelling videos and images
Including a video with your campaign increases your chances of success by a third. Don’t be too concerned about producing a perfectly-polished blockbuster - the power is in the story and a persuasive narrative.
4. Engage with the community
Sport England encourage clubs to set up reward schemes for donors. If you can make use of links with local businesses, they could provide suitable rewards - helping you to maximise profits.
5. Be creative when asking for donations
Donations can come in many forms - you could ask members to donate their usual annual fees to the campaign, or funnel the funds from a regular raffle or quiz night into your crowdfunding.
