Women's Indoor League Round Six
The Notts All-Stars will go in to the final of the Nottingham Women’s Indoor League in fine form after rounding off the group stages with their fifth victory in the six matches.
Their only loss came against the Notts Finest in round four and the two teams will face off for the third time in next weeks final.
The Finest came through their final group game against Plumtree with a 55-run success to finish five points behind table toppers the All-Stars.
Notts Finest vs Plumtree CC. 131-86 runs
Having lost their first game at the hands of the All-Stars, the Finest have been the form team over the remainder of the group stages, their 55-run victory over Plumtree marking their fifth win on the bounce. The Finest batted first and started well, taking 38 runs in their first skin with Sophie Williamson scoring 24 and Chloe Rudkin 14. Plumtree fought back to limit the scoring in the 2nd and 3rd skin, some excellent run outs stemming the progress of the high fliers. One of the memorable moments of the Finest innings came in the tenth over, Jess Pym accidentally hitting her batting partner and seeing the ball fall in to the hands of Plumtree’s Helen Cox. The Finest showed all their class though, which has helped them occupy second position in the table for the majority of the season, Tash Allen (24) and Alex Armstrong (22) adding 46 for the final skin.
Plumtree kept up with the Finest’s scoring rate early on in their innings, only 12 runs behind after the first skin. The chasing side made the most of their early momentum to win the next two skins, with all batters getting in and making useful contributions. Ultimately though, Notts Finest came out on top as Plumtree struggled in the last skin and couldn’t keep up with the impressive bowling of Tash Allen and Chloe Rudkin, the in-form Finest ending up easy victors.
Nottingham University Ladies vs Notts All-Stars 106-130 runs
Notts All-Stars go into the finals in 1st position as they battled to victory against a determined NULCC in this evenings second game. Notts All-Star batted first and the usual high scoring batting pair of Georgie Boyce and Jenny Grey were restricted to just 25 runs in their skin. Nottingham University continued to display excellent fielding and had thoughts on keeping the high-flying All-Stars to a total of under 100. However, Ellie Bradbury (24) and Rosie Penford (21) showed the depth of the table toppers, lifting their side up to 130 by the end of their 16 overs.
The University Ladies started well, finishing the first skin just six runs behind. The ultimately crucial second skin saw Notts All-Stars fight back and, with some good run outs and the bowling by Ella Tweed, hindered the progress of Notts University.
Despite being bottom of the table, the University continued to battle across the final overs, winning the third and fourth skins, with Shannon Jackson making 24. However, the All-Stars’ total proved to be just out of reach, Notts University falling 25 runs short meaning they will face Plumtree in the third and fourth place play-off in the final week.
